SPECIAL REPORT: 13 Reasons Why

This SchoolTV Special Report is the result of increased concern from parents and schools in relation to the Netflix TV Series, ’13 Reasons Why’.

The show has been criticised internationally by psychologists for glamorising, normalising and sanitising youth suicide. Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is concerned about the risky content and potential impact that this show may have on young viewers.

In this Special Report, Dr Carr-Gregg highlights the areas of the show that concern him as the suicide scene is graphic. Parents may feel that this is inappropriate viewing for their child and it is therefore not recommended for children under the age of 15. However, should your teenager insist on watching, then parents are strongly encouraged to view it with them and have an open discussion about the content.

If you have any concerns about your child, contact your school’s counsellor or seek medical advice.
